Deer Attacked By Lion At Washington DC Zoo

A wild deer jumped into the lion enclosure at the National Zoo in Washington D.C. on Sunday. The young female deer jumped a 3 1/2- to 4-foot retaining wall and landed in a moat surrounding the enclosure. It was then attacked by two female lions. More than 100 zoo guests were at the enclosure at the time of the attack and a witness said people were shouting "Go! Go! Go!" and that "everyone was rooting for the deer." Despite breaking free, the deer had a serious wound on its belly, the animal had to be euthanized. Why were people so shocked to witness this attack. Do we unaware of lion's true behavior in the wild? That is what lions do, attack deer's. I wonder if the zoo handlers gave the lions the deer after it was euthanized? Would that be right/wrong?

Elvis's Hair Strand Up For Auction

Homer Gill Gilleland toured with Elvis for more than 20 years. He dyed the singer's hair black and then cut it, saving strands in a towel. After Elvis's death in 1977, Mr Gilleland is said to have started selling strands of the hair in a souvenir shop on the street opposite Presley's home “Graceland.”

A strand of hair from the late Elvis Presley, saved by his personal barber, is to be auctioned in Devizes, Wiltshire, on November 14. The strand currently up for auction was given to Thomas B Morgan Jnr in 2002 by the barber. Mr Morgan worked in the Sheriff's Office of Shelby County and knew Elvis. The strand, which measures 12 inches by 22 inches, comes with its own certificate of authenticity and is expected to raise between £150 and £250.

Allen Iverson Has Left The Memphis Grizzlies

Allen Iverson has left the Memphis Grizzlies and returned to his home in Atlanta after receiving permission to leave the team to attend to personal business. Iverson returned from a torn right hamstring and immediately said he didn't like coming off the bench. Iverson has said nobody told him the Grizzlies would be rebuilding after a 24-58 season. Iverson's history, is incessant griping about coming off the bench, as he did in Detroit. Remember Iverson said, "The ultimate goal is to win games. That's the only thing it's about." Only if he’s starting.

Iverson has played in three games since returning from a hamstring injury, averaging 12.3 points, 3.7 assists and 22.3 minutes. Iverson got his first game action with the Grizzlies against Golden State in Sacramento, and played 27 minutes off the bench. Iverson played 21 minutes and had eight points against the Lakers. Allen Iverson scored 11 points in 17 minutes against the Sacramento Kings. Team owner Michael Heisley gave Iverson permission to skip the Grizzlies' game against the Los Angeles Clippers. One game into his career as a Memphis Grizzly, Iverson was already complaining about playing time and his role on the team.

Three games into his Memphis Grizzly’s career, he requested a leave of absence from the team for personal reasons. Iverson had two meetings with owner Michael Heisley over the weekend and requested to leave the team. Iverson flew to his home in Atlanta on Saturday afternoon, hours before the Grizzlies were scheduled to play the Clippers in Los Angeles. Iverson is disgruntled and wants nothing to do with the Grizzlies unless he's starting. Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins spoke to him briefly before he left, but would not elaborate on the conversation.

Is this decision better for Iverson or the Grizzlies?

Gifts For Guns

Myron Lowery has done his sixth Gifts for Guns skit this week. The program allowed a gun owner to turn in a gun for a $100 gift card from Kroger or from the New York Suit Exchange. "These guns will never kill or harm anyone," Lowery said. I guess Lowery haven’t noticed, people are killed with all kinds of weapons. Knives, ropes, screwdrivers, baseball bats, bricks, and wood boards like Chicago teen Darrion Albert. Lowery are you going to start Gifts for Knives, Gifts for Ropes, Gifts for 2x4’s or are you just sticking to attacking Guns. Last time I checked, a person can walk in any store and purchase a knife, rope, 2x4 with out a background check.

Look at Monday’s
crime report Memphis police have charged Christopher Norfleet with second-degree murder in the killing of Earnest McGee. According to police, Norfleet’s girlfriend and others were involved in a fight. Norfleet pulled a knife and started to enter the fray. Norfleet then stabbed McGee four or five times, sending him to the hospital, where he later died. NO GUN. Memphis police are looking for Herman McKinley, as a suspect in a Sept. 23 homicide. Herman McKinley shooting Toby Gladney in the Claiborne Homes complex. GUN. Leo Johnson is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Ivory Calhoun. Police believe Calhoun and Johnson were involved in an altercation, at which time the suspect strangled the victim. NO GUN. Stabbing, Gun, Strangling. About 160 guns were turn in Saturday. Throughout the years more than 2,000 guns have been collected. Look at the crime statics of Memphis the past 10 years one would see this program has not effected the gun crimes in the city. Today two people were shot. I guess the shooters didn't need that $100 gift card from Kroger or the New York Suit Exchange so they decided to keep their guns.

Lowery has good intentions, but he is fighting an issue that will not be solved by giving somebody a couple of dollars for a weapon. First, a criminal will not turn in his tool. Second, a person that want to harm someone will use what ever they can find. If you ask anybody on the street how criminals get guns you’re likely to hear “They steal them” Wrong. According to Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) most guns used in crimes are not stolen out of private gun owners’ homes and cars. Stolen guns account for only about 10% to 15% of guns used in crimes. (Click Here) Because when they want guns they want them immediately the wait is usually too long for a weapon to be stolen and find its way to a criminal.”

Don’t be fool with these "Done With Guns" phrases. They sound great and true, if only one gun is removed from the street, lives will have been saved and it will be worth it. That is TRUE in the criminal’s hand. If you can get the gun from a criminal who is willing to use that gun to shoot his/her victim. Most of those who are in a position to provide information on guns are themselves gang members or those who are involved in illegal activities. There are easier ways to make $100 than by calling Crime Stoppers. Criminals don’t wait in line to surrender their guns for a few bucks or a suit from New York Suit Exchange, BE FOR REAL HERE! Many decent citizens lawfully keep firearms in their homes for protection against home invasion and burglary. To suggest that they disarm leaves them vulnerable to horrific crimes perpetrated by vicious criminals.

These gun “Buyback” programs have been around for almost 25 years. Piles of weapons are handed over to the police for a few dollars every year. They make great photographs, but repeated studies of politically popular gun buyback programs across the country have found no detectable effect on violent crime or in firearms deaths. These programs attract the wrong weapon. Most buyback programs have a potent political appeal. At most, they take 1% to 2% of guns out of a community, and the guns collected are among the least likely to be used for violence. The gun owners who turn in their weapons tend to be middle-age or elderly. Street criminals tend to be adolescents and young adults. Also, In any case, surveys of the people who turn in their weapons frequently find they have additional guns at home they intend to keep. Would you turn in your gun for $100 gift card from Kroger or the New York Suit Exchange?
