GM ends 9-year endorsement Woods

General Motors contract with Tiger Woods ends in 2009.

Woods has been carrying the Buick logo on his golf bag for the last nine years.

and still had one year left on his contract.

General Motors was looking to cut costs and decided that the contract with Woods would be the choice while trying to survive the decline of sales.

Larry Peck stated that Buick had a great partnership with Woods, and that it will be hard for the partnership to end. Larry added that this decision frees up time for him and frees up a lot of money for Buick.

The endorsement deal, believed to be worth at least $7 million a year, was to expire at the end of 2009.

Woods has endorsed GM products and has been seen in Buick commercials. Peck said during the launch a few years ago of the Enclave, its research showed that 78 percent of consumers who bought the SUV previously had not been Buick owners, he added the credit to Woods.

Mark LaNeve said GM and Woods started discussing an end to the deal earlier this year, and it had nothing to do with the Detroit Three automakers' quest for $25 billion in federal loans.

Woods agent at IMG, Mark Steinberg, said the decision to end the relationship one year early was mutual.

Buick will also cut back on its deal providing courtesy cars at PGA Tour events. We will not get the great deals after the Stanford/St. Jude.

Buick remains the title sponsor of two PGA Tour events - the Buick Invitational at Torrey Pines, which Woods has won six times; and the Buick Open outside Detroit, which Woods has won twice.

County approves Bass Pro for Memphis Pyramid

Monday the Shelby County Board of Commissioners voted 9-3 in a agreement that would bring the Bass Pro Shops to The Pyramid.
The county and city will begin negotiating terms of a lease agreement. In the next year, Bass Pro will conduct feasibility studies and lay out design plans, and the company can walk away from the project during that year.

The one-year development agreement sets quarterly deadlines for the Bass Pro and proposes new market tax credits and sales tax revenue from a Tourism Development Zone. The city and county would have to put up $30 million if those funds come up short.

The $100 million project has been in negotiations for about three years. The development plan includes a 150,235-square-foot Bass Pro store, restaurants, an aviary and a museum. After the one-year development period and a two-year construction period, Bass Pro would pay at least $1 million annually to rent The Pyramid.

Obama The Golfer

WHILE OTHERS PONDER the historic nature of a Barack Obama presidency, Nitegater wonders about Obama’s golf game. Specifically, where does Barack Obama stand on golf?

I know this much, Obama is a Lefty, but how is his short game? Does he hit a long ball? Can he sink a four-footer?

I can’t endorse him as a golfer. I need to know more.

Janis Fullilove asks for Censure

Janice Fullilove has asked the Memphis City Council for censure to do what’s best for the citizens of Memphis. She also apologized for her recent actions which sent her to court again to face new charges regarding her driver’s licenses. The outcome of this ‘censure’ means nothing for the citizens of the city, she will still have voting power and rights of a Memphis City Council Member. I don’t know what to say about the Memphis City Council. Talk, Talk, Talk is all they do, this issue about Janis should have been address months ago, but what can be said, This Is Memphis. Does Memphis need a council member in this condition, who acts the way Janis does. Memphis Janis has been like this for years, in my opinion she should have never been elected in this position.
